Dear members of Westfield Golf Club,
Last year we played approximately 10,135 - 18 hole rounds recorded by paid members. This doesn't include rounds before April 15 and after October 30. We also had approximately 6,564 - 9 hole rounds by non-members (green fees). This is a lot of traffic for our course. With this all said, we have a few issues that need to be addressed:
1. Bringing on your own beverages. Let’s break this down financially. A foursome plays 18 holes and drinks one beverage. 4 times 1 equals 4, times $2.50 equals $10.00. This foursome plays fifty rounds a year, times $10.00, equals about $500 of lost revenue. Multiply this by 10 foursomes and 2 beverages per a 18 hole round by 50 rounds and you have $10,000 of lost revenue. It doesn't take much, but as you can see, it is all lost revenue.
Please understand that this isn't directed toward anyone in particular, but it has been observed. We, as a club, feel we offer a reasonably priced form of entertainment and would like to continue to offer this. If this is continued and is observed, there will be a form of reprimand. If there are issues that the bar is not open when you tee off early in the morning or on Sunday, before 10:00, try to plan ahead and purchase beforehand. If you feel that the beverages are not cold enough from the beverage cart, coolers are available in the bar to fill with ice before you tee off.
2. Usage of carts has been going well. Our fleet of 25 carts has gone through a good transition. There is the normal wear and tear, but for the most part, has been accepted. Please remember to return and park the cart in the designated area after your round is complete. Our staff has been doing a great job on keeping them clean and running good. Remember that with the changing of holes No. 5 & No. 9, the old No. 5 is now the finishing hole and the cart traffic will be increased. Also, when renting a cart, look it over and report any damage before teeing off. This to the owners of personal carts, when you park by the proshop, be considerate to leave enough room for normal cart traffic to pass. Also, please remember, you are not allowed to operate another members cart if your cart is in not working order or on site. You must rent a cart if you choose to ride.
3. The personal cart owner’s contracts have been reviewed from the years 2011 and 2012. (Remembering that 2011, was the last year to be grandfathered in.) You will notice a change when you come in to pay your trail fees this year. The 2013 contracts will already be filled out with the owner/co-owners name and the cart information, IE, make, model, color and insurance information. Please do not question what you see to the Pro-Shop staff, bring this up to the board for review. You may notice that the owners/co-owners is not correct the way you filled the contract out in 2011. This was noticed to be reversed from 2011 and 2012. The reason may be only because the person paying the trail fee put their name as the owner. Also we need the insurance information to be completed. There may be an issue where you didn't fill in the co-owner in 2011 and filled it in in 2012. You may find that you filled in a co-owner and they are not listed. Please remember you have to be a paid member to be on the contract. Spouse’s names were not listed in 2011 and are in 2012, this is acceptable and will be reflected on the 2013 contract.
4. With said about holes 5 and 9 being switched, the cart traffic from No. 8 to the new No. 9 and 4 to the new No. 5 may seem at first to be congested but should be an easy transition. We will try to have signage visible to direct traffic. Please try not to drive behind No. 4 green to reach the cart path coming from No. 8 tee box.
5. No. 4 fairway is planning to be under construction in the spring of 2013. This will happen as early as the weather enables us to start. We will be playing No. 4 as a par 3 until the project is complete. Please travel on cart path from No. 3 green to the temporary No. 4 tee box. Again, weather permitting, this project should be able to be completed or ready for play by the end of May. If there are any tournaments to be played before complete, the handicap holes will be adjusted to show the change.
6. We are trying to transition to omitting the printed newsletter. As of now, it is every other month. Other courses have a web based newsletter via web site. As some of you already know other courses are sending out updates and reminders via e-mail. This is not an invasion of your privacy, just a form of communicating. We employ someone to keep the web site up to date. We are trying to communicate internally to keep this person updated to transfer this information in a timely manner. This will help out financially as well as delivering tournament reminders and Lounge and Pro Shop updates and specials. There still may be a limited letter available in the Lounge and Pro Shop. This will also allow Westfield to reach out to non-members to see what is going on at Westfield.
7. Fivesome’s are not allowed, unless authorized by the Pro Shop staff. Please remember it only takes one fivesome to be on the course to fuel other groups to do the same. We are always looking for ways to speed up play at Westfield. Even if you do not slow play, the next group that duplicates the fivesome may slow play.

I heard rumors about this last year and was hoping it was not true... How about explaining the reason for changing 5 and 9?..
Don't you want a "signature" finishing hole? 9 was a great way to finish...a nice risk and reward hole to make or break a round and now we get a par 4 that finishes closer to the clubhouse as the closer... BFD
Whose idea was this??? too many free drinks during a board meeting??? Very disappointing change.
